NEPAL'S CABINET GIVES GREEN SIGNAL FOR EMBASSY IN OMAN
Nepal is planning to open an embassy in Oman in the near future, as well as other locations in the GCC, as the country looks to expand its existing network of diplomatic missions around the world, according to a statement released by senior government officials.
The announcement came following a Cabinet meeting of Nepal's government on Thursday and is welcome news to the thousands of Nepali migrants who travel to the GCC each year, with between 15,000 and 40,000 living in Oman.

Nepali diplomatic services to expatriates in the sultanate are currently overseen by the country's embassy in Saudi Arabia.
Raj Kishor Yadav, Nepal's Minister for Information and Communication, was quoted in international media reports as saying that the growing significance of the region was a 'key factor' in looking to set up the missions, with requests currently being prepared to be sent to respective countries to allow Nepal open new missions.
According to the Himalayan Times, undersecretaries from Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs will head the two new GCC embassies, with other diplomatic officials such as labour attachés are also likely to be among the mission's staff.
In addition to Oman, an embassy was agreed to be established in Bahrain and another consulate is to open in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A similar proposal to set up an embassy in Spain was rejected during the Cabinet meeting. Nepal so far has 29 residential missions and three consulates across the world.
In 2011 it was reported that steps were being undertaken to open a Nepali consulate in Muscat to help serve the expatriate community in Oman, following extensive lobbying and consultation from the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA).
